WebGems made 1 attack incredibly strong, and pairing that with a good spread move can lead to some absurd damage very quickly (potentially turning a battle into a 4v2 in a single move). Mega Evolution was a cool concept, but most of them are incredibly powerful compared to other Pokemon.

It has a really good 140 base attack, and access to STAB Flying Gem Acrobatics. Even with Defeatist, as long as you provide some good support, Archeops is a really dangerous sweeper.

You could even use Agility instead if you were against more offensive teams.
