WebCystopteris is a genus of ferns in the family Cystopteridaceae. [1] [2] These are known generally as bladderferns or fragile ferns. They grow in temperate areas worldwide. This is a very diverse genus and within a species individuals can look quite different, especially in harsh environments where stress stunts their growth. WebStems are grooved, and commonly straw-colored to greenish on the upper stem and darker purplish-brown with a few scattered tan scales below the leaf. The plant grows in an asymmetrical clump, the fronds erect to ascending to arching. Old stem bases persist, and small colonies may form from short, creeping rhizome. Spores:
